The use of various media venues raises the public’s awareness of the positive impact that music education has on our society’s youth. Reaching readers, listeners and viewers, local newspapers, radio stations and television provide the perfect avenue to educate the masses on the value of music in our schools. Articles can range from the effects of pending budget cuts on school music programs to the school’s upcoming concert and its benefits to participating students. Invite area media sources into the music room as ensembles prepare for upcoming competitions and trips as a reminder of how school music brings positive activities into the lives of Arizona children. Solicit local radio stations’ use of MENC’s Why Music Public Service Announcements Series . Of course in today’s technological generation, consider the perks of advocating and educating the value of school music through the various social networking entities. Building a partnership with the media can be a powerful tool to extend a message beyond the normal boundaries. Make “the importance of music education” a familiar phrase.
