How’s Your Music Program Surviving?
As we prepare for further cuts to Arizona’s educational programs, take this opportunity to describe how your music program is handling the situation. What course of action has been taken to combat pending budgetary reductions or even possible elimination of your school’s music programs?
Fortunately, my school district planned for the worse case scenario in the 2010-2011 budget. No major program cuts or reduction in workforce are predicted for the next school year. However, that does not guarantee further implications to my program’s annual expenses and activities. In an effort to be proactive, I helped ignite the founding of a Band Boosters organization in the fall of 2008 – still going strong today. In addition, the local media is routinely alerted to the various activities of the school’s bands, student musical accolades and Boosters endeavors. We continue to be vigil for the school’s band program maintaining a high profile within the school, the district and the community.
