Tom H
orne on Advocating for the Arts in Arizona
“Teachers often want to devote all of their attention to their students. However, in a public school system, the public is our boss and we cannot succeed unless we communicate effectively with them. At this time of budget difficulty, it is especially urgent that arts teachers devote the time necesssary to communicate with the public and with decision makers the importance of preserving our arts programs. If we do not do this effectively, future generations may lose our precious inheritance that developed over centuries and that we have the sacred obligation of preserving.” – Tom Horne, Arizona State Superintendent of Public Instruction
